element26.tv executive producer Nathan Haines, stumbled across Henry DaCosta whilst browsing around the internet before inevitably landing in r/filmmakers.Â
Somewhat oddly, it wasn’t Henry himself that Nathan found initially, but a group of eager filmmakers discussing some of Henry’s work.
Halfway through the comments, Nathan noticed Henry raising his hand to claim ownership of the footage; a beautifully composited sequence featuring a flock of birds in the wilderness at magic hour.Â
Jumping over to Instagram Nathan found Henry’s work for Scientific American and decided to reach out.
A few weeks later, schedules aligned and they were able to jump on a call. It was clear that there was a meeting of minds in everything from favourite directors, cinematographers to the ways they liked to work.
element26 was seeking out new directors in response to demands for broader talent with an appreciation for both music, visual effects and sports. Not only was this evident in Henry’s work but there was a genuine sense of a director’s perspective. Â
Henry DaCosta is an Indian, Persian and Polish director based in NYC. He is the first professionally working artist in his family’s long history of math and science nerds. His unusual cultural background has allowed him to travel extensively throughout his life, which attributes to his artistic diversity.Â
Henry’s career started by filming concerts and branded documentaries for musicians. His training as a cinematographer, background in VFX and CG, topped with his dedication to tell stories that matter constantly pushes his films to new and exciting places.
I’m extremely excited to start collaborating with e26 because of their experience developing top rate directing talent in both live-action and animation, i'm confident this will complement the diversity in my own work. Making content in Europe has long been an ambition of mine and I’m delighted to be able to do this with the creative team at element26!
